We at Mir Pace International would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, friends, and all of our race participants for coming out to support our 3rd Annual Paddle for Poverty. Your kind and generous support on Saturday is deeply appreciated and so very important to our efforts in bringing life-saving solutions to the poor while in Tanzania later this week. Your spirit and enthusiasm was spectacular and there is no question that acts of selflessness for a worthy cause glows brightly here on the South Shore!

Both the long and short course races went off without a hitch. In the short course, two pirates maintained the lead throughout, followed closely behind by Annette Quinn and Shana Swartz. In the long course, Jimmy Schneider crossed the finish line first, with John Karoff close in his wake. The long course (was it more than 3 miles??) was a challenge, but all enjoyed the competition and magnificent scenery.

The top three finishers in each single and tandem category were:

Short Course Single Short Course Tandem Long Course Single Long Course Tandem
Meghan McBride Pirates Julie/Erin Neilan Jimmy Schwartz John and Sydney Fortin
Bill Connors Annette Quinn/Shana Swartz John Karoff Leslie Green/Deborah Scott
Mary Cody Jonathan Barsamian/Luke Anderson Sol Levin Theresa/Alyssa Mullen

At the conclusion of the race, we held a raffle of items donated by many of our very generous sponsors. Raffle items included a weekend camping trip for four, donated by REI, a one-month free membership to The Sports Club/LA, gift certificates to Saporito's Florence Club Cafe, Atlantica, and The Square Cafe, beauty products offered by Beauty and Main, and last but by no means least (as it was the first item selected!!!), a classic T-Shirt donated by Johnny Cupcakes. To our wonderful and very generous sponsors, thank you as our raffle was a tremendous success!

Throughout the day, our friends from Java Jungle provided refreshments, and even emergency medical care to one of our paddlers! Thankfully, he is fine and in perfect health!

Finally, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Scott and Judy Plympton of Nantasket Kayaks for their continued and very gracious support of Mir Pace's Paddle for Poverty event. We would also like to thank Kurt Bornheim, Harbormaster, and his team for their diligent service on the water, insuring safety to all race participants, as well as to our friends at Steamboat Wharf Marina. Without your kind assistance, this event would not be possible. Thank you!

Our sincere thanks again to everyone, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
