Student Participant Selection

Student volunteer selection criteria is based on a comprehensive Application Package that includes a Volunteer Application, an essay addressing "Volunteerism - Be The Change You Wish To See In The World," an informal interview with a Mir Pace Selection Committee member, three personal references that may include a teacher, religious or community leader, and parental consent.

Fund Raising

Each participating student raises his/her own program costs. Student fundraising plays a vital role because it promotes teamwork, ownership of the fundraising project, and ensures that students recognize and share the aspirations of Mir Pace.

Orientation

Prior to beginning the orientation program, it is important for you to consider the physical and mental diversity between program expectations. Students who demonstrate proficiency in teaching and child interaction may thrive best within the structure of a school or refugee camp project, whereas students who possess a spirit of teamwork and an enthusiasm for environmental and agricultural concerns, may be best suited for the structure of a community project.

Much of the knowledge you will need for your duties will be acquired through the orientation program. Orientation commences one month prior to the student volunteer mission departure date and the mandatory session will concentrate on specialized instruction in the culture and environment of the area you will visit, as well as project-related instruction (e.g., basic health care and safety, building techniques, etc).
