Fundraiser Dance to Benefit
Oxfam's Asia Earthquake Fund

Memorializing those who lost their lives on December 26, 2004,
and supporting the remarkable survivors!

In response to the overwhelmingly unprecedented destruction and loss of lives in the 12 Asian countries struck by December's earthquake and tsunamis, followed by a series of severe aftershocks, four Seniors from Cohasset High School in Cohasset, MA, were inspired to assist Mir Pace International in its efforts to raise awareness and much needed funds for Oxfam's Asia Earthquake Fund. Mir Pace is working with Oxfam America, in order to help broaden and expand Oxfam's reach for much needed donations, as they now transition from emergency relief to recovery and reconstruction.

Mackenzie Holway, Lauren Rizotti, Teddie Straughn, and Nicole Whitney, all seniors at Cohasset High School, were deeply moved by the Asian disaster, and in January of 2005, they began planning a fundraising event. Mackenzie, Lauren, Teddie, and Nicole focused their energies on organizing a dance for the lower grade school in Cohasset. The four worked vigorously at obtaining donations of food, soft drinks, a DJ, dance hall, and even a volunteer Police detail in order to direct all proceeds from the dance (more than $400.00!!) to the Asia Earthquake Fund.

Although attendance was minimal, thanks to ever-so-typical New England weather (a Nor'Easter!!), the evening was a success!! The mostly 7th graders who did brave the inclement weather had a blast! The music was awesome, the pizza and softdrinks ravenously enjoyed, and the dancing was amazing (special thanks to Mackenzie's, Lauren's, Teddie's, and Nicole's fun and funky efforts to help the younger dance-goers get into the groove). Dancing was interrupted by a very moving slide presentation of striking images taken immediately after the tsunami, as well as images reflecting the remarkable work and progress Oxfam has made over these past few months.

100% of the dance proceeds received by Mir Pace for the Asia Earthquake Fund will go directly to Oxfam.

We thank you, Mackenzie, Lauren, Teddie, and Nicole, as well as all those who attended the dance, for giving so generously of your time to support the Asian relief effort!

We also extend our special thanks to the following supporters:

Papa Gino's Pizza, Cohasset, MA
Officer Donahue, Norfolk County Sheriff's Department
Mr. John Buckley, Cohasset High School

Outside of the disasters that make the headlines, Mir Pace International and Oxfam share the mission of addressing the ongoing, extreme poverty that makes every day an emergency for far too many people throughout the world.
